The report concerns the supervision of mussel fishing in the Limfjord during the period 2019-2024.
The purpose is to examine whether the supervision has been conducted on a comprehensive basis and in accordance with applicable regulations. Rigsrevisionen also examine the factual basis for the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries' briefings to the Danish Parliament's Environment and Food Committee.
Rigsrevisionen assesses that the Fisheries Agency under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries has conducted highly inadequate supervision of mussel fishing in the Limfjord. Consequently, there is a risk that mussel fishing has caused unnecessary harm to the marine environment and has not been sustainable. Due to incorrect information from the agency, the ministry's briefings to the Environment and Food Committee have been incorrect in two cases.
Rigsrevisionen initiated the study in April 2024 at the request of the Danish Public Accounts Committee.
