Report on the disability policy within education and employment

20-01-2010

Report no. 4/2009

The objective of the Danish disability policy has since 1993 been to secure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. An overall statement of the status of equalization of persons with disabilities in Denmark does not exist. Indications are, however, that persons with disabilities are still encountering barriers to employment and education, which were focus areas in the Government's action plan for persons with disabilities from 2003.

The overall objective of Rigsrevisionen's audit is to examine and assess whether the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Ministry of Employment are working towards ensuring equal opportunities for persons with disabilities with respect to education and employment. Rigsrevisionen has examined the framework of the disability policy, including the coordination of activities under the policy conducted by the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior and Social Affairs. Rigsrevisionen has also examined whether the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Science, and the Ministry of Employment have managed the initiatives directed towards persons with disabilities in a satisfactory manner. Lastly, Rigsrevisionen has examined whether the three ministries in their activities directed towards the citizens in general have taken into consideration the special requirements of persons with disabilities.
